Are the summer holidays a good time to buy a property?
The summer holidays. Are there three more delightful words in the English language? It’s the time of year when we all get to take some time out, (hopefully) enjoy some sun and leave our troubles behind for a few weeks.
However, these days the world stops for no one, and most business carries on as usual. So could the summer holidays be a good time to buy property? Let’s take a closer look at the pros and cons.
Maybe it’s better to wait
As we’ve mentioned, during the summer months people are very often away on holiday. This can mean getting a final decision from the vendor, advice from lawyers and even financial assistance can take a little longer. When buying property, time can often be of the essence and not getting the information you need can be frustrating.
The market is slower around this time too, with fewer sellers choosing the summer to list so the pickings may be slimmer. Often vendors will wait until they are back in the swing of their routine, and agents follow suit
Yes, it’s a good time to buy
While it’s true that people are away on holiday, business does not stop. In the modern world we’re all connected 100% of the time so you can get an answer from the vendor even if they’re on a beach in Thailand, usually within seconds. The same goes if you’re planning to be away. Simply take your phone and your laptop, connect to the nearest wifi and you can go about purchasing as if you were here in the UK
Professional companies don’t shut for the summer. Staff might take holidays but the wheels of business keep turning and you can always get hold of professional advice and services.
It might be true that fewer properties are listed during the summer holiday but it also means vendors may be keener to sell those that are listed. Plus, and people often underestimate the importance of this, people being relaxed and in a good mood can really help grease the wheels of a purchase. Just think about your own experiences and how much more likely you are to buy or sell when you’re in a good place.
The reality is that the best time to buy property is when you are ready and when the right deal comes along. This is just as likely to happen during the summer holidays as any other time. If you need help finding the right deal, then get in touch with a member of the Agile team.
